WASHINGTON, D.C. —  The Center to Advance Security in America (CASA) has filed a complaint with the Disciplinary Board of the Supreme Court of Pennsylvania, requesting an investigation into attorney Carmen M. Lineberger following her recent federal indictment.

Lineberger, a Pennsylvania-licensed attorney and former federal prosecutor, has been charged with offenses including theft of government records, falsification of records, and unlawful removal of public records. According to the indictment, she allegedly transferred sensitive Department of Justice documents—including a report prepared by Special Counsel Jack Smith’s team that had been ordered sealed by a court—to personal email accounts after renaming the files “Chocolate_cake_recipe.pdf” and “Bundt_Cake_Recipe.pdf” to conceal their true contents.

“If the allegations set forth by federal prosecutors are true, Lineberger clearly knew that she was doing something wrong by labeling sealed and confidential records as cake recipes. Her intention was to hope nobody would notice,” said CASA official Curtis Schube.

“This level of deception is not only criminal, but it represents dishonesty and deceit, which any bar disciplinary board must take very seriously.”

If proven, the alleged conduct may violate Pennsylvania’s Rules of Professional Conduct governing criminal conduct, honesty, and professional fitness, which could subject Lineberger to sanctions ranging from public discipline to suspension or disbarment.
